WHO AM I?

Matt Richardson is the owner of Richardson Vocal Studio. He has been teaching private voice lessons for 10 years, working with students of all ages and ability levels. Matt has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwest Missouri State University and a Master of Arts degree, also from Northwest Missouri State. Prior to teaching voice full time, Matt taught for 10 years at Raytown High School in Raytown, Missouri. There, in tandem with the Choral Music Department, he taught lessons, vocal coached musicals, and prepared students for district and state contests.

Matt left Raytown in the Spring of 2018 to pursue teaching voice full time. He now operates a studio of over 70 students out of The Culture House Conservatory of the Arts in Olathe, KS, where he serves as a resident Music Director for adult and student theatre productions, as well as an artist-in-residence.

PERFORMING

Matt is an active and accomplished performer in the Kansas City, Metro. He has sang with a number of ensembles, including the Schola Cantorum professional ensemble at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, as well as Central Standard, a men's a cappella ensemble that annually ranks among the top 5 a cappella choruses in the world.

In recent years, Matt has dedicated the majority of his time performing to musical theatre, both on stage and as a music director. Matt has worked with a number of local professional theatres including Musical Theatre Heritage (Sarah Crawford), and This Happy Breed (Kyle Hatley). Some of Matt's favorite roles include Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde in Jekyll and Hyde, Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd, Edward Fairfax Rochester in Jane Eyre, the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance, Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar, and Trevor Graydon in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

As a music director, Matt has worked with Theatre in the Park, The Barn Players, Olathe Civic Theatre, and the Mid-Life Players. The bulk of his time, though, is spent at The Culture House Conservatory of the Arts, where he has music directed 5 of the last 6 summer adult productions, including Seussical the Musical, Once On This Island, and Big Fish, all at The Kauffman Center in Kansas City. In addition to the adult productions, Matt has music directed 35 main stage youth productions at Culture House, working with students ranging from ages 6 to 20.

MY FAMILY

There is no way I could do anything I do without the love and support of my amazing family. I'd be lost without them!

My wife, Alisha, is the owner and lead planner of Thirty-One Thirty Events, a boutique wedding and events firm based out of Kansas City. She is also an accomplished performer...and we met playing opposite each other in Little Women.

My daughter, Aubrey, is an 12 year old 7th grader and competitive dancer. She LOVES the stage as well and has performed in numerous Culture House shows as well as Störling Dance Theatre's production of Underground, which is performed at The Kauffman Center every year. Aubrey also played the role of JoJo in TCH's Summer Broadway Series production of Seussical the Musical at the Kauffman Center in August 2022.

My son Theodore is 5 years old and is a wild man. He loves legos, Marvel, and Bluey. Oh...and dancing and jumping on the trampoline. EDIT: He's discovered the iPad. Game over...

Not pictured is Auggie, our 3 year old Toy Poodle/mini Aussie mix. He is 6 pounds of pure destruction.
